Do you “Know it when you See it”?

The Sons of Liberty, which included Americans like Samuel Adams, Joseph Warren, Paul Revere, Benjamin Edes, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, John Lamb, William Mackay and more was a formal underground organization which opposed British rule of the American colonies. More likely, the name was an underground term for men resisting the British Crown’s taxes and laws.

The well-known label allowed organizers to make or create anonymous summons to a Liberty Tree, “Liberty Pole”, or other public meeting-place. The unifying name helped to promote inter-Colonial efforts against Parliament and the Crown’s actions. Their motto became “No taxation without representation.” As far as the King of England was concerned, the Sons of Liberty were “terrorists”.

While the world rightfully showered praise on New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for the immediate and compassionate way in which she responded to the murders of fifty Muslim worshippers at two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand, I’m a bit disappointed with stories that she has chosen to join French President Emmanuel_Macron to get countries and tech firms to a pledge to eliminate “terrorist content online.
