“Mutation proposes, the environment disposes” — E.O. Wilson
At the risk of sounding terribly prudish I’m going to attempt to answer the question Brooke Baldwin recently asked on her CNN show, Where has decency in America Gone? My admittedly, overly simplistic answer is that it has been drowned in a genetic cesspool.
Basically all the people going to trump rallies, like those in this picture, are doing more than just screaming “Make America Great Again”. They’re obviously having a lot of sex among each other. So much sex in fact that they’re creating a completely new genotype which is the part of the genetic makeup of a human cell, and therefore of any individual, which determines one of its characteristics (phenotype). In the case of trump supporters the characteristic is “crudeness”
The phenotype of an organism is the composite of the organism’s observable characteristics or traits, including its morphology or physical form and structure and its behavior, and the products of behavior. An organism’s phenotype results from two basic factors:
- the expression of an organism’s genetic code, or its genotype, and
- the influence of environmental factors, which may interact, further affecting phenotype.
The basic characteristic that has arisen from trump supporters having so much sex with each other is simply “crudeness”. It’s an attitude that basically says “screw anybody that doesn’t agree with us and our supreme leader, donald trump”.
Can you blame them? After all here’s their leader setting an example for what to do after one of his rallies, or his golf outing, is over, take your pick.
I know what I’m saying may sound ludicrous to many but W.D. Hamilton was an evolutionary biologist, widely recognized as one of the most significant evolutionary theorists of the 20th century. He wrote:
“A relative of an egoist, opposed to and altruist, has an increased chance of carrying the gene of the egoist, therefore the ultimate criterion which determines whether the gene of the egoist will spread is not whether the behavior is to the benefit of the behaver but whether it is to the benefit of the gene.” — W.D. Hamilton, “The Evolution of Altruistic Behavior”.
An egoist is a person whose outlook or concern is limited to one’s own activities or needs. In the case of trump supporters the behavior and gene that is to the benefit of the behaver is “crudeness”. More importantly than the genetics spreading the crudeness, however, is the environment, like trump rallies, reinforcing the behavior, which only increases the crudeness geometrically.
However, as I said, I hope no one reads this and says, “O that prude, he’s just against us having some fun”. That’s simply not the case. I belonged to a fraternity where it was difficult getting to the bathroom during parties with most of my “brothers” on the floor in an “embrace of love” with their “embracee” for the evening.
I just don’t know how else to answer Ms. Baldwin’s question, Where has decency in America Gone?, other than to quote the great evolutionary biologist, E.O. Wilson and say, “Mutation proposes, the environment disposes”.
In the case of the crudeness being spread by trump supporters, however, the environment is not disposing any of it. It’s only growing it. Church & Dwight, Inc. (CHD) stock is likely to skyrocket! They manufacture Trojan condoms, now being promoted by, you guessed it, Donald J. Trump! Rumor is Trojan machines are about to be installed in bathrooms in the White House and at the entrance to all trump rallies.
