The touchstone of value
It’s hard to believe the name of a xenophobic bigot like donald trump will appear along with those of former Presidents of the United States like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy to name just a few.
During a speech in South Africa Robert Kennedy said:
“ … the individual man, the child of God, is the touchstone of value…
Therefore the enlargement of liberty for individual human beings must be the supreme goal of any western society.” — Robert F. Kennedy — University of Capetown, Capetown, South Africa, June 6, 1966
17th-century cleric and philosopher Richard Cumberland wrote:
“promoting the well-being of our fellow humans is essential to the “pursuit of our own happiness”
It is no secret our nation’s politics and culture have become more polarized since Donald Trump entered the presidential elections in 2015 and then became president. His divisive and xenophobic rhetoric has targeted Mexicans, African Americans, Muslims, and anyone with differing views as un-American outsiders.
Most alarming however, trump’s rhetoric has translated into policy, dangerously impacting the lives of millions…
