Things have changed

When I was a young man, working in Philadelphia, and my wife and I were just starting to introduce our children to what we hoped would be “beautiful things” we were lucky enough to be surrounded by great musicals, which I don’t care about the story line, if the music catches you kid’s imagination they’ll love the show!

I was also lucky enough to be working in a consulting firm with a lovely lady who was a member of the Savoy Company of Philadelphia , the oldest amateur theatre company in the world dedicated to performing the works of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Each year the Savoy Company produced one of their shows in Longwood Gardens, which is just a thirty minute drive south of where our house in rural southeastern Pennsylvania was.

The two shows that our children enjoyed the most were; The Pirates of Penzance and H.M.S. Pinafore. In addition to enjoying the music and theatrics of the shows we also got to show our children the beauty of Longwood Gardens.

Luckily our house in Pennsylvania was also not that far a drive from New York City so we had the opportunity to take our children to see Broadway musicals like Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables as well where they got to listen to truly beautiful music like Jean Valjean sing “Bring Him Home”

Since those lovely days enjoying beautiful things in southeastern Pennsylvania, however, things have changed in America. We now read stories of women with unborn babies being cut from their womb and the President of the United States calling our the FBI and CIA evil.

I liken donald trump to Vigo, the evil lord in Ghostbusters, who spread evil and harm throughout the world. We need our days of beautiful things back. It would be so helpful for the mental health of all Americans if we could return the Whitehouse to the time when it was called Camelot.

During that time President and Mrs. Kennedy would hold dinners, not just for political dignitaries. but for artists and poets like they did in April 1962 when they held a White House dinner for Nobel Prize winners, President Kennedy delighted his distinguished guests by calling them “the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.

We need the United States before the evil that is donald trump. We need the Major General back.
