This may be the best, most articulate article I’ve ever read about abortion. The most articulate sentence in the article and perhaps the entire discussion is when Ms. Valenti writes, “There is no difference between a fertilized egg in a lab and a fertilized egg in a person.” She then goes on to describe how those writing anti-abortion legislation do not assert that IVF clinics should be held as criminal for discarding eggs fertilized via IVF like they do criminalizing women who dispose of fertilized eggs in their bodies.

I’m not sure I would go so far as Ms. Valenti does when she asserts that those writing and supporting anti-abortion legislation do so “to control woman’s bodies”. Rather I think it is just brute, cruel politics. They’re just appealing to the righteous sensitivities of voters who think they’re upholding some moral principal wrapped in the photograph of an embryo.

Thank you for writing this articulate, informative article Ms. Valenti. We all need the education to be able to have any chance of resolving this extremely politicized issue that has no one’s interest at heart other than the politicians who see benefit yelling about it.
